From a casual gamer September 3, 2008 I guess I should make it clear first that this is a review for "The Incredible Hulk" for the Wii. I see a few people comparing this to another Hulk game that's out there and giving it low stars because of the comparison. This review is for THIS game, not another Hulk title.
PROS: If you like basic (and I mean basic)button mashing and busting up stuff this will be a lot of fun for you. It's a Hulk game, what do you expect, puzzles? There are tons of little feats that you can accomplish to get power ups and make Hulk stronger. Personally I have found this to be one of the more exciting aspects of the game. Building up characters has always been a favorite of mine. The Wii controls make this a bit easier to play than on other consoles. I played this for hours on the 360 and could never figure out how to get a basic combo out. For some reason on the Wii that wasn't an issue for me at all. I think this game lends itself more toward a traditional controller, but I was surprised at how well the Wii controller worked with the game.
CONS: The camera angles can be infuriating at times. This is the one real weak point with the Wii controller, you can't quickly move the camera around and when you are in a battle that can be the difference between success and failure. If you are a connoisseur of good graphics you might want to pass on this one. They really aren't that bad, but if you're picky..... As much as I like it, I have to admit that constant smashing and bashing can get old after a while. I had to put the game down and plan to pick it up again in a while when I need some mindless gaming.
So basically if you aren't too picky and you like a lot of running around, building up your character and constant punching and bashing you probably will get a kick out of this game.
Incredibly bad June 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A few years ago, a little game called Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction was released, and was a surprisingly great take on the Marvel character with free-roaming and destructive environments, plus the overall feeling gameplay-wise that you really were the Hulk. This new movie tie-in Incredible Hulk game from Sega seems to want to follow in the same footsteps, but alas, it is a disappointing, and quite frankly boring smash-a-thon that squanders any potential it has, and the Wii version ends up being the worst version of the game to come out. The first thing you'll notice is just how bad the game looks on the Wii, with glaring glitches and pop-up backgrounds, and some bland looking areas as well. Where the game really falters however is with the Wii Remote and nunchuk controls, which are just utilized so badly here that the game becomes very frustrating. Add to this no option to use any other form of controller for the game, and you're in for a bad time. Occasionally the game is fun by tossing people around, and the film's stars including Edward Norton lend their voices, but as a whole, the Incredible Hulk for the Wii is incredibly bad. All in all, if you own a Wii and are a Hulk fan, avoid this game at all costs, and track down an old copy of Ultimate Destruction instead.
Not So Incredible June 15, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was never a huge fan of Ultimate Destruction, but this game is much, much worse. It took away the cool moves and combos, the big city, all the cool codes to unlock stuff, steel fists, and basically everything that made the previous game fun. Let me break it down to show you how bad it is:
graphics: terrible. The Hulk looks more like the Green Giant from the can of peas than the Incredible Hulk. This game lacks color and detail.
Controls: Terrible again. The camera is broken and jumping seems out of control. Replenishing your health is ridiculous because it requires you to hold down B while shaking the nunchuk. It never seems to respond accurately.
Gameplay: Between missions, you can explore what they call NYC to your content. I don't know who would actually want to though. Every block looks the same, and the worst thing is that I didn't know that I was even in NYC until the game told me that I had climbed the Chrysler Building. What happened to all the crowded streets? What about the skyscrapers? What happened to everything that made exploring NYC fun in previous games (Spider-man 2, Ultimate Destruction)? The buildings don't fall realistically, and once you throw things it takes much too long for them to stop moving. Also, where are the explosions? There is no fire or anything in this game! You throw a taxi against a building, and it disappears. Very unrealistic. Most of the missions require you to just fight the army and robots. Fighting bad guys as the Incredible Hulk must be fun, right? Wrong. First of all, The Hulk has no cool moves (the only thing he can do is pick stuff up and punch). The enemies you fight always miss when they fire, they can be killed with one simple punch, and stand there as if they were asking to fight. You'll have just as much fun beating up your pillow.
The only enjoyment I got out of this game was when you picked up a person and they yelled "GET AWAY FROM ME"! The sound came from the Wii-mote, which I thought was a cool and unique feature. That's the only positive.
If you want a good Hulk game, get Ultimate Destruction. If you want a good super hero game, get Spider-man 2.
Lots of Fun for Fans of Total Destruction!!! June 14, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Very similar layout to the "Iron Man" game (by same creators, I guess). Good graphics. Better controls than "Iron Man". Way more stuff to grab and/or smash. Not a lot of difficulty except in the camera control mode. That's something of a pain to just stop what you're doing to hold a button and point someplace with the Wii remote. Other than that, no real disappointments.
Also, for parents of younger players, this game does seem to lack the potty-mouth cut scenes that "Iron Man" has. Violence is not very detailed. My 2-1/2 year old twin daughters were watching me play yesterday and were giggling themselves silly. I suppose that's the seal of approval that this one is kid-friendly. ;)
Worst Game EVER! June 8, 2008 3 out of 23 found this review helpful
No Matter What dont get this game. It sucks! The Graphics Suck! The Camera Sucks! And Pretty much Everything Else Sucks! Get Super Man 64 before you get this game!
