5 out of 5 stars Great game for 1st timers   November 30, 2008
We got the wii for our 4.5 year old twin boys and this game was great for them. It really taught them the basics of the game--climbing, jumping, finding objects, etc. This game only uses the wii remote, hold it sideways and use the #2 button for some functions--not complicated like some other games we have tried. For my young children it was great that they NEVER died--can't fall off a cliff, no bad people to kill you, etc. I'm not sure if an older child would like this game, the higher levels didn't get harder, it was kind of repetitive, but for a younger child this was great. This game was even kind of educational, following on the TV show where you have to choose the correct animal and rescue item.

2 out of 5 stars NOT Educational   November 4, 2008

I got this for my 6 year old Diego and Dora fan. She beat it in 2 hours; a grueling two hours for me because it is extremely repetitive. Players are not expected to read, count, or do any problem solving of any kind. For a safari game, it is also mysteriously lacking of any relevant information about the African safari or it's wildlife.

By far the most disappointing aspect of this is the concept. You must save the elephants that have been turned to stone by a mean magician. How does this teach our kids about responsibility, being wards of the earth, and protecting our wildlife? It was a lost opportunity to teach kids about pollution, hunting, overdevelopment, etc - as the reason why elephants need to be saved, and to take responsibility for the damage as human beings.

The only pro to this game is the encouragement of movement in various ways with the WII remote (swimming, climbing, beating a drum).

It is a side-scrolling linear walkthrough game with no challenge whatsoever. I expected more educational value from the creators of Dora the Explorer.

DO NOT BUY. There are other games with more educational value.

4 out of 5 stars Mom of 2 Year Old   November 3, 2008

My son has played this game about 4-5 times. He enjoyed it each time. I let him play it for about a 15 minute session. Gives me a quick break to start getting some food on the stove.

4 out of 5 stars Kids love the Diego game!   October 17, 2008

Our youngest child enjoys this Diego game for the Wii. However, gets a bit bent out of shape when we can't play the game perfectly. If he could fly through the game right out of the box...then he'd be bored. Keeps him entertained and learning to follow instructions and good hand-eye coordination. A great value on Amazon, much cheaper than any of the discount store and even cheaper than I found on eBay.

4 out of 5 stars Maybe an older 2 yr old could even play!   September 2, 2008

As the family got a Wii for "our" birthday (4 b-days in 2 weeks), we got this for our daughter who just turned 3, because its about all we could find for her age. She can already play reasonably well, though I'm sure she doesn't understand the overall goals (like gathering seed for an ostrich or taking lion cubs home). Nevertheless, she can manuever Diego, and that's really all she needs to do. Like I said, she just turned 3 (and really has no video-game experience beyond the computer), so an older 2-year- old or one who has done games with other controllers may even be able to do this.
